ALICE in Minnesota

ALICE households earn above the federal poverty level but cannot afford the cost of basic necessities, such as housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology. Unlike the Federal Poverty Line and Consumer Price Index, the ALICE threshold is based on the local prices of essentials that low-income households prioritize.

We all know people who experience these struggles.

ALICE refers to our friends, neighbors, and family members who play an essential role in our communities but often struggle to make ends meet.

ALICE workers include:

  • personal care aides

  • nursing assistants

  • cooks

  • cashiers

  • laborers

  • and others we rely on every day!
